Electric Cars

I don’t hate electric cars. I am a tech nerd, but I see how they’re not practical today. I also see how governments could abuse electric cars more than combustion vehicles since giant smartphones can track and be shut off much more quickly. In theory, I’m sure they can do something similar with combustion, but you can still make an engine work without a computer. You can’t say the same for the electric.

Our power grid is overloaded as it is, and with all the cries to change to more effective power sources like wind, solar, or water, those have shown their flaw. Like it or not, electric cars are coal cars, considering how much of the country still powers homes and businesses using coal. I know many people who work in the coal industry and know more about the benefits of coal than I do. That’s not what I’ve come to talk about today.

I have an issue with electric cars having better designs and why they can’t offer a combustion engine alongside the electric ones. Take the new electric Silverado, which is my favorite truck, but the electric version looks great. It reminds me of the old Avalanche, one of my favorite SUVs back in the day. Why can’t they give us a gas version of this truck or a diesel or something? I would buy it in a heartbeat! An electric truck can’t tow as much as a gas or diesel because it only has one gear, so the numbers aren’t practical.

Yes, I know most people don’t tow that much anyway, but I’ve seen tons of videos of people buying an electric truck and showing it doesn’t do what the gas-powered truck can do. So, how are these things practical? Someone needs to create a good alternative for the bulk of buyers to be interested in them, and no one has done that.

So please give us an electric, sure, but also a gas-powered version or, better yet, hybrid or even hydrogen. That has shown real potential, but Toyota is the only manufacturing company looking into that. I think we’re still years away from having an electric truck. What’s out there is nice, but it can’t replace the pull of today’s gas or diesel, and it might not be for some time.
