Unpopular opinion on the ICE shooting. While we can argue that the shooting death of Ms. Good and now the shooting death of Alex Pretti, also tragically shot and killed by ICE, are tragic, there is one part that it seems no one wants to acknowledge. I’m not saying comply or die, but the way our civil society continues is we have to have an understanding that our officials need to be respected. For decades, we were told that respecting officers is the way to survive; if you’re wrongfully arrested, you will get your day in court. That was once the staple of our society. Now it seems like people who used to believe these fundamental things are throwing them out the window because they’re told to.
The actions of many Democrat leaders to demonize federal agents who have a federal duty to protect your towns and cities from criminals are who is to blame. They have convinced their local citizens that they are somehow taking up arms against an invading force of evil when in reality they are doing nothing but sowing division and causing an insurrection. The federal government has a constitutional authority; it is the authority over all the states, and when they get out of control or refuse to follow the law, then they have to crack down. Listen, I’m no fan of any authority, but we live in a civil society, and the agents from the federal government are doing a federally mandated task that was voted on overwhelmingly by the American people. We either respect all laws and work to change the ones we don’t like or we throw them all out for anarchy.
Some may not like how it is going, and I’ll admit I was one of those people for a while, but then I started to listen to what the leaders in these 9 counties kept saying. They are, as I said, purposely getting people riled up and using patriotism to do it. Like it or not, ICE has a mission, a mission that has been carried out by many presidents before, even before it was called ICE. You need to ask yourself, out of all the counties in the US, which there are over 3000, why is it just these 9 that see more of a violent assault against and also from ICE? If you remove the 9 sanctuary places, there are only 64 incidents from ICE across 3000 +/- counties. I’m not saying ICE is perfect, and I’ll admit the shooting of Mr. Pretti is bad, and what DHS and FBI said about carrying a weapon is even worse. However, we are a nation of laws, we are a nation of constitutional authority, and there used to be a time where people understood and respected this. If you’re wronged, you wait for your day in court; you don’t take the fight to them before it even begins.
I’m not saying the shooting of Mr. Pretti was justified, but I’m not condemning it either. He decided to resist federal agents, knowing he had a loaded weapon and knowing what the potential outcome of that could have been. How would y’all feel if he was successful in shooting an ICE agent? Would you celebrate it like many did when Charlie Kirk was murdered? He resisted, and at some point, you have to say, “Okay, I’ll get my day in court” and then fight. Fighting with the people on the ground, be it federal agents or local cops, never ends well for the people fighting; it’s always best to fight in court. Now, if you want to talk about how the police have too much authority and get away with far more than they should, by all means, let’s have that discussion, but to condemn a force when you were fine with it under previous administrations is just insane to me. You’re being played by a mechanism, and you’re thrilled to death about it.
While both shootings are horrible, like BIG said, “I would never wish death on nobody because there ain’t no coming back from that,” I am also not shedding a tear for them because if you believe what they did was right or wrong is one thing, but when you argue with armed agents and try to fight or potentially run them over, you’re going to find out real quick: play stupid games, win stupid prizes. I guess I have more of an insight into this because I used to fight to police in my younger years, and I know it’s not a wise thing to do. I choose to remember those innocent people who have been murdered by illegals, like the poor 8-year-old who had their skull crushed recently by an illegal. I cry for them, not people trying to stop those charged with removing those that would do harm.
No, it’s not all of them, but breaking the law is breaking the law, and we’re either a civil society with laws that are obeyed or we’re not; there is no grey. It sucks because no life should ever be lost or taken, but at some point, we need to put blame where it belongs on the people that convinced Good and Pretti to go obstruct and interfere, blowing whistles which could be a type of torture if close enough; that’s where the blame needs to be, and then it becomes that those two were responsible for their own actions, much like if they got drunk and drove. Personal responsibility: those encouraging to disrupt and those doing the disrupting. Imagine how this country would be if all those people fought this hard for their actual citizens.
