This day will remain in many people’s heads for some time. A presidential candidate was shot at. I try not to bring politics into anything I do. I know it will creep in occasionally, but I try my hardest to avoid it. Politics today aren’t what they were fifteen years ago. Hell, it’s not what it was five years ago. People have become extreme, and as we saw yesterday, with the attempt on former president Trump’s life, it has become deadly. I could sit here and bore you with historical points of people being assassinated in American politics. Still, the truth is all but one were Republicans, but Democrats shot all. This isn’t a hateful statement; it’s a fact.
Now, you’d think in 2024 we wouldn’t be dealing with this, but with such hatred being thrown at one person who is called Hitler and a danger to our way of life and wanting to put black people in slavery again and whatever else, they spew, this was the unfortunate inevitable outcome. Everyone could see it. Tucker Carlson even called it even Andrew Tate said they’d come for his life. I found it a little comical that the people asking for Trump not to have Secret Service details and others who called or compared him to Hitler all were quick to post the same message that political violence is never the right choice. Yet Maxine Waters famously called for violence and said she would “take Trump out tonight.” Will she apologize, too? Don’t count on it.
In every instance, the Democrats felt they were doing what was the right thing, and that’s the problem with extremism: they believe they’re doing right or worse, being righteous. That’s why they’re so dangerous. Democrats want to scream that Republicans were extreme on January 6, but no one died that day except Ashli Babbitt. Most people would agree that the events of January 6 were anything but extreme and far too detailed to go into today. Trump turned his head at the right second and averted certain death. It’s incredible how close to death he came and also unbelievable. How could someone get to a point where they disagree so profoundly they’d want them dead and taken away from their family?
Every time a politician or president has been shot or killed, it was a Republican, except for John F Kennedy, who pissed off the CIA and the Federal Reserve. Who do you think Trump has pissed off? I mean, besides every Democrat that refuses to believe in any counterargument. It’s gotten out of hand. I don’t think Trump will make it to November or Joe Biden. The funny thing is the Democrats are yelling we have to save our democracy by installing a man against the will of the people… that doesn’t sound very democratic to me. How about you?
In other news, one of the biggest exercise gurus of the 80s and 90s died. Richard Simmons, who was a big part of my childhood with his “sweating to the oldies,” died after falling at his home. He was only 76. Richard spent his entire career trying to help people and was always a positive light, even when he was the butt of a joke. Richard took it in stride. There is a movie being made about him starring Pauly Shore , which I am excited to see. Richard was one of a kind, and even though I never got to meet him, I will miss him and his energy. I think the world needs it more than ever.
Finally, a star I absolutely loved from her days as Brenda Walsh on 90210 and then Prue Halliwell on Charmed or Heather Duke in Heathers and Rene in Mall Rats Shannen Doherty has died after fighting a battle with cancer. Shannen spoke on her podcast a while ago that she was clearing everything up for when she died so her loved ones wouldn’t have to. She talked about her love for and hoarding of dining room tables. Hearing her speak as if she was no longer here was hard for me, and I don’t think I could have been that brave. I hope I will be when faced with my mortality. I don’t think I could be as positive as she was. She was one of my favorites and, again, a big chunk of my childhood, and she will be missed. She was only 53.
To quote the great Martin Lawerence, “I can’t believe so much fucked up shit can happen on such a beautiful day” It just seems like Saturday, July 13, 2024, was a day the reapers worked overtime…or was it just me?
